Master students that have completed their on-campus curriculum will then spend 12 or more weeks within an Italian, European or even non-European organization. During this time, they will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained on campus to real-world problems and work on a project. The main results from this internship activity are to be included in the student's final graduation report/seminar, due for submission in November of the same year.

Organizations hosting MiNE students for internships are business or non-business organizations that are leaders in their respective sectors of activity and that consider the many new challenges imposed by the emerging network economy as a further opportunity to strengthen, expand and improve their way of operating and their competitive edge.

The host, in collaboration with the student, defines a topic related to a common field of interest and assigns a company tutor to follow the student's activities alongside a Research Advisor chosen by the student from within the MiNE Program faculty. Hosts are asked to offer at least a salary covering the student's living expenses during the internship as well as part of travel expenses. Students manage any visa processing and related costs themselves, while insurance against injury in the workplace is paid by the Università Cattolica.

The MiNE Program offers students careful guidance in their search for and choice of internship project and company, but when students apply to the MiNE Program, they should preferably already have some idea of the subject of the project they would like to work on, and/or the type of company they would like to be hosted by. Students are encouraged to contact companies of their choice directly or through the MiNE Program, and during the course of the academic year they will be given opportunities to meet representatives of organizations interested in offering internships.

The MiNE Program cannot guarantee that all students of every edition will receive offers of internships on terms that are acceptable to them, but, while each student is ultimately responsible for finding his/her own internship, the MiNE Program will offer every kind of help within its grasp.
