2003-2004 ACADEMIC YEAR ALUMNI

Name: Sameh Abdel-Naby (testimonial submitted May 2005)
Edition: 2003-2004
Now working: I've got a Pre-PhD scholarship opportunity at the University of Trento, carrying out R&D in several subjects relevant to Informatics and Telecommunications. At the same time I'm working with a German-French-Italian Consultancy Company SESA Int. www.sesa.de which has Italian-based offices www.sesaspa.it and in the last 3 months was sold to another big company so we all became part of TietoEnator www.tietoenator.com, a Finnish-Swedish company with 245 offices worldwide. This is a big Mexican-salad situation! More precisely I'm participating in a huge project called ARS LOGICA regarding the implementations of a New Mobile Operations Platform.
Sector: Telecommunication and Informatics (Research and Developments)

How long have you been there?
After finishing my MiNE courses and exams, I did my internship with SIEMENS Mobile Communications, Milan, where I stayed for almost 8 months and of course I picked one of the relevant interesting subjects for my graduation report. Right after that I was offered a PhD potential internship in Trento (Italy) and here I am, just about to start my third year in Italy and my 4th month in Trento.

What is your position?
Researcher with some critical managerial duties

What are your duties/responsibilities?
The Development of a New Mobile Operations Platform learning from the past, analyzing the present and predicting the future.

What type of contract do you have?
Not a lifetime one but I'm happy with the situation as I see potential in remaining here for a longer period to gain wider experience.

Are you happy with your job/life? Why (not)?
Frankly speaking, I'm so happy and surprised, too. I wasn't sure of how efficient and significant the Master of MiNE would be until I got into the market and experienced the importance of having the backgrounds I passed through during the MiNE classes. It is amazing having knowledge of every latest technology subject that plays a fundamental role nowadays.

Which aspects of the MiNE Program and your time spent at MiNE do you feel have been the most important/useful in relation to your life up to now?
The multicultural atmosphere that MiNE classes offered to its students is something unique; the exact needed combinations between different topics and subject; moreover, the advanced scoring and testing system that MiNE follows; and finally, a real cooperative management team contributed most in creating a smooth educational period for me and my colleagues.

What did MiNE teach you that you now use?
MiNE wanted to ensure that it was graduating Network Economy managers and by now I feel like a real successful manager, the way I deal with people, the way I see things, the way I solve problems and finally the way I analyze and achieve job tasks: I didn't waste my time taking this Master degree.

What other important lessons have you learnt in life since leaving MiNE?
Never stick to just one side of a concern, always look at everything the other way around, and do not judge anything unless you have tried it.

Do you have any advice for potential MiNE candidates?
Guys, it is just there, find a way to get over and join it, you won't regret it, I assure you. Being a follower all the time won't add anything to your career like being a leader (manager).

Yes.

Which aspects of the MiNE Program and your time spent at MiNE do you feel have been the most important/useful in relation to your life up to now?
- Professors from America and Britain with very profound and wide-ranging professional knowledge in the high-tech environment. I also learnt from their experiences in their business life as well as their opinions on working and traveling in a new culture environment. Now this knowledge and experience help me a lot when working in a multi-culture environment, and sometimes with very "tough people" :
- I learnt a lot from my classmates and MiNE staff. I lived with an Italian family, who were really kind like all the other Italian people I met. This made me more generous and kinder to other people, especially to people who are newcomers in my environment in the way I was welcomed to Italy.

What did MiNE teach you that you now use?
- Knowledge about doing business in the high-tech economy.
- Experience in applying technologies to create value for business.
- Lessons of success and failure in doing business in the new economy.

What other important lessons have you learnt in life since leaving MiNE?
The lesson of kindness and generosity of the MiNE staff, MiNE students, and Italian people.

Do you have any advice for potential MiNE candidates?
Try to read as much as you can. Try to travel as much as you can. And try to be as kind as you can.
